2-2-5-5 custody schedule calendar

Monday and Tuesday are always one parent's, Wednesday and Thursday always the other's, and the weekends alternate. That makes stretches of two and five nights, with the same weeknights every week. A 50/50 that older kids can keep in their heads.

Who it suits

  • School-age kids who like knowing "Mondays are at Mom's"
  • Parents with fixed weekly commitments (a class, a shift, a standing appointment)
  • Families moving off a 2-2-3 who want fewer hand-offs

What to watch

  • !The five-night stretch is long for very young kids
  • !Only one hand-off falls on a weekday, so the weekend hand-off carries the weight
  • !The weekend parent still alternates, so plan events two weeks out

Quilt writes the 2-2-5-5 schedule from your order through next year: holidays by even and odd year, school breaks, hand-off times. It syncs to Google and Apple, the other parent answers change requests in one tap, and the kids see whose house it is on their own device. 30 days free.

Questions about the 2-2-5-5

How does a 2-2-5-5 differ from a 2-2-3?

Both are 50/50 with alternating weekends. On a 2-2-5-5 the weeknights stay fixed, which gives longer stretches (five nights) and fewer hand-offs. On a 2-2-3 the weeknights flip every week.

How many exchanges are there each week?

Two: one midweek and one at the weekend. The 2-2-3 has three.

Can we do 2-2-5-5 with a Sunday evening hand-off?

Yes. Quilt writes the calendar from whatever hand-off day and time your order sets, and the kids' view shows the change at the right hour.

Quilt is a scheduling and record-keeping tool, not legal advice. If anything here disagrees with your order, the order governs.
